The trustees of the Len Self Youth Challenge embarked on a better way to manage the trust by incorporating in the spring of 2000 the 99th ‘community foundation’ in Canada.
The capital donated to the Foundation is kept in perpetuity and professionally managed. The funds are reinvested to maintain their purchasing power and distributed as approved by the Board of Directors. Funds will be awarded only to qualifying charitable organizations serving the local area and its citizens.
 What is a community foundation?
- locally run public foundation to the benefit of locals
- builds and prudently manages permanent endowment funds
- a centre for community philanthropy
- identifies and responds to changing community needs
- grants to and any or all areas of community service
